USB-C charging mandate - Directive (EU) 2022/2380

Last updated: 7 January 2025, 11:06

From 28th December 2024, a large percentage of the technology items available for sale inside the EU are required to charge via USB-C. The goal for Directive 2022/2380, known colloquially as the common charging solution, is to reduce e-waste and solve market fragmentation.

The regulation explicitly covers consumer-facing communication capable technology products such as handheld mobile phones, tablets, digital cameras, headphones, portable speakers, e-readers, keyboards, mice, portable navigation systems that are rechargeable with a wired cable and can operate with a power delivery of up to 100 watts.

The MicroBio and Qualisair™ products are not consumer facing communications devices that require charging, therefore not required to have USB-C type charging capability to remain compliant with being placed for sale in the EU market.

However, the charger we supply with the MicroBio air sampler kits uses a USB power source with a legacy Type-A to Micro-Type-B USB cable. This cable can be replaced with a USB-C to Micro-Type-B if required by an end user to use with their existing USB-C power sources.
