Service Option Types and Service Options
Service Option Types and Service Options can be used to add ‘options’ to Services.
They are typically used to describe Room Options (e.g. Single, Double) or Board Options (Half Board, Full Board) for Accommodation, or to add extra options to Transfers (Arrival, Departure), or Sundries, but they very useful, as they can be used on any Service in Schoolworks.
Service Option Type
Service Option Type is the parent (or grouping) record of Service Options.
For example, there will likely be a Room Option Type record in your Schoolworks, which will have Service Option records something like ‘Single’, ‘Double’ ‘Triple’ etc.
e.g.
Room Type (Service Option Type record)
Single (Service Option record)
Double (Service Option record)
There will be existing Service Option Type, and related Service Option records setup when your Schoolworks was originally configured, but you can add additional Service options as needed, or configure your own Service Option Type and Service Options from scratch if needed for new Services.
Service Options in Pricing
Service Options appear in the Prices screen; so they can be used to select different prices depending on the Service Option selected in the Booking.
Accommodation
Service Option Types and Service Options for Accommodation operate in a special way, because as well as allowing for Service options to be selected in the Booking process, these Service Options also appear as Room Options on the Room configuration record.
Considerations and ‘Gotchas’
It is very important that you carefully plan the use of Service Option Types and Service Options.
They can be very useful for helping your customers or users select the right options during the booking process, but it is important that once they are setup, and are in use, it is impossible to change or remap them.
You can add extra Service Options as needed, or disable (tick the Deleted box) if you no longer need them, but they need to be treated with care, setup and tested thoroughly before put into use.
Another major consideration is that the Service Option Types and Service Options are available in the Schoolworks online booking portal - so planning and testing how the customer will use them to select the product/service and options is even more important in this case.
