1 He threatneth seueritie, and the power of his Apostleship against obstinate sinners. 5 And aduising them to a triall of their faith, 7 and to a reformation of their sinnes before his comming, 11 He concludeth his Epistle with a generall exhortation and a prayer.

¹ This is the third time I am comming to you: in the mouth of two or three witnesses shal euery word be established.

² Ich sagte euch zuvor und sage euch voraus, als wäre ich das zweite Mal zugegen und bin abwesend, nun schreibe ich denen, welche bislang gesündigt haben und allen anderen, dass wenn ich wieder komme ich nicht schonen will:

² I told you before, and foretell you as if I were present the second time, and being absent, now I write to them which heretofore haue sinned, and to all other, that if I come againe I will not spare:

³ Seit ihr einen Beweis von Christus sucht, in mir sprechend, der euch gegenüber nicht schwach ist, sondern mächtig ist in euch.

³ Since ye seeke a proofe of Christ, speaking in me, which to you-ward is not weake, but is mightie in you.

⁴ Denn obwohl er gekreuzigt wurde durch Schwäche, lebt er doch durch die Kraft Gottes: Denn wir sind auch schwach ||in ihm, aber wir werden mit ihm leben durch die Kraft Gottes euch gegenüber.[||oder: mit ihm]

⁴ For though hee was crucified through weaknesse, yet he liueth by the power of God: for wee also are weake || in him, but wee shall liue with him by the power of God toward you.[||Or, with him.]

⁵ Prüft euch selbst, ob ihr im Glauben seid: Prüft euer eigenes Selbst. Kennt ihr nicht euer eigenes Selbst, wie dass Jesus in euch ist, es sei denn ihr seid Schurken?

⁵ Examine your selues, whether ye be in the faith: proue your owne selues. Know yee not your owne selues, how that Iesus Christ is in you, except ye be reprobates?

⁶ Aber ich vertraue, dass ihr wissen werdet, dass wir keine Schurken sind.

⁶ But I trust that yee shall knowe that we are not reprobates.

⁷ Nun bete ich zu Gott, dass ihr kein Böses tut, nicht damit wir bestätigt erscheinen, sondern dass ihr das tut, was redlich ist, obwohl wir wie Schurken wären.

⁷ Now I pray to God, that ye doe no euill, not that we should appeare approued, but that ye should doe þt which is honest, though we be as reprobates.

⁸ Denn wir können nichts gegen die Wahrheit tun, sondern für die Wahrheit.

⁸ For wee can doe nothing against the trueth, but for the trueth.

⁹ Denn wir sind froh, wenn wir schwach sind und ihr seid stark: Und das wünschen wir auch, nämlich eure Vollkommenheit.

⁹ For wee are glad when wee are weake, and ye are strong: and this also we wish, euen your perfection.

¹⁰ Deshalb schreibe ich dies in meiner Abwesenheit, damit ich nicht in meiner Gegenwart die Schärfe gebrauche sollte, gemäß der Kraft, die mir der Herr zur Erbauung und nicht zum Verderben gegeben hat.

¹⁰ Therefore I write these things being absent, lest being present I should vse sharpnesse, according to the power which the Lord hath giuen me to edification, and not to destruction.

¹¹ Schließlich, Brüder, lebt wohl: Seid perfekt, seid guter Dinge, seid einer Meinung, lebt in Frieden und der Gott der Liebe und des Friedens wird mit euch sein.

¹¹ Finally, brethren, farewell: Bee perfect, bee of good comfort, bee of one minde, liue in peace, and the God of loue and peace shalbe with you.
