Er ermahnt eine bestimmte ehrenwerte Frau mitsamt ihren Kindern in christlicher Liebe und Glauben auszuharren, 8 damit sie nicht den Lohn ihrer früheren Arbeit verlieren: 10 Und nichts mit den Verführern zu tun haben, die nicht die wahre Lehre von dem gesalbten Jesus bringen.

CHAP. I.

Hee exhorteth a certaine honourable matrone, with her children, to perseuere in Christian loue, and beliefe, 8 lest they lose the reward of their former profession: 10 And to haue nothing to doe with those seducers that bring not the true doctrine of Christ Iesus.

¹ The Elder vnto the elect Lady, and her children, whome I loue in the trueth: and not I onely, but also all they that haue knowen þe trueth:

² Um der Wahrheit willen, welche in uns wohnt und für immer mit uns sein wird:

² For the trueths sake which dwelleth in vs, and shalbe with vs for euer:

³ Güte sei mit dir, Gnade und Friede von Gott dem Vater und von dem Herrn Jesus Christus, dem Sohn des Vaters in Wahrheit und Liebe.

³ Grace bee with you, mercie, and peace from God the Father, and from the Lord Iesus Christ, the Sonne of the Father in trueth and loue.

⁴ Ich freute mich sehr, dass ich von deinen Kindern {einige} in Wahrheit wandelnd fand, wie wir ein Gebot von dem Vater empfangen haben.

⁴ I reioyced greatly, that I found of thy children walking in trueth, as wee haue receiued a commaundement from the Father.

⁵ Und nun beschwöre ich dich Dame, nicht als ob ich dir ein neues Gebot geschrieben hätte, sondern das, welches wir von Anfang an hatten, dass wir einander lieben.

⁵ And now, I beseech thee Lady, not as though I wrote a new commandement vnto thee: but that which wee had from the beginning, that wee loue one another.

⁶ Und das ist Liebe, dass wir nach seinen Geboten wandeln. Das ist das Gebot, dass, wie ihr von Anfang an gehört habt, ihr in ihm wandeln sollt.

⁶ And this is loue, that wee walke after his Commandements. This is the Commandement, that as yee haue heard from the beginning, yee should walke in it.

⁷ Denn viele Betrüger sind in die Welt gekommen, die nicht bekennen, dass Jesus Christus im Fleisch gekommen ist. Das ist ein Betrüger und ein Antichrist.

⁷ For many deceiuers are entred into the world, who confesse not that Iesus Christ is come in the flesh. This is a deceiuer, and an Antichrist.

⁸ Schaut auf euch selber, dass wir nicht die Dinge verlieren, die wir ||erarbeitet haben, sondern dass wir vollen Lohn empfangen. [ ||oder, erlangt. Manche Kopien lesen, “welche ihr erlangt habt, sondern dass ihr empfangt”, &c. ]

⁸ Looke to your selues, that wee lose not those things which wee haue || wrought, but that we receiue a full reward. [ ||Or, gained. Some copies reade, which yee haue gained, but that ye receiue, &c. ]

⁹ Wer immer übertritt und nicht bleibt in der Lehre von Christus, hat Gott nicht: Er, der bleibt in der Lehre von Christus, er hat beide, den Vater und den Sohn.

⁹ Whosoeuer transgresseth and abideth not in the doctrine of Christ, hath not God: hee that abideth in the doctrine of Christ, he hath both the Father and the Sonne.

¹⁰ Wenn jemand zu euch kommt und nicht diese Lehre bringt empfangt ihn nicht in eurem Haus, noch grüßt ihn, God speed

¹⁰ If there come any vnto you, and bring not this doctrine, receiue him not into your house, neither bid him, God speed.

¹¹ Denn er, der ihn grüßt God speed ist Teilhaber an seinen bösen Taten.

¹¹ For hee that biddeth him God speed, is partaker of his euill deeds.

¹² Viele Dinge habend dir zu schreiben, würde ich dir nicht mit Papier und Tinte schreiben, sondern ich vertraue {darauf} zu euch zu kommen und von ⁺Angesicht zu Angesicht zu sprechen, dass unsere Freude völlig sei. [ ⁺gr. Mund zu Mund. ]

¹² Hauing many things to write vnto you, I would not write with paper and inke, but I trust to come vnto you, and speake ⁺face to face, that our ioy may be full. [ ⁺Gr. mouth to mouth. ]

¹³ Die Kinder deiner auserwählten Schwester grüßen dich. Amen.
