In German Luther introdced “propfen” for the greek ἐγκεντρίζω (egkentrizō). But the enghlish “to graffe” (nowadays “to graft”) is more precise. The German “propfen” describes also closing a winebottle with a kork. But the King James translators identified correctly, that this is the method to attach a young and good ranch to a stable and well established one, to let it grow better (in German “Veredelung”).

The new branch that gets “graffted” has the advantage of being fed by the old and stem with its well established roots. And it is exactly this picture, Paul wanted to use and the King James translators got it completely right.
